My brother Matt loaned me this book. It is an alternative-history novel based on the premise that a natural disaster in the latter half of the 19th Century interrupted history. The novel is set in a 21st century that is still using steam-based technology. It is a good adventure story and an interesting sorta-science-fiction story.

I didn’t know much about this book when I started it. It did represent a complete sea change from the previous book I had read, though.
A Good Indian Wife follows the story of a modern Indian couple who find themselves living in California in an arranged marriage. There is a culture clash between the Indian diaspora and society back on the Indian subcontinent. It makes for an interesting examination of marriage, relationships, culture, and tradition.
